The Fundamentals Of Cross-hatching: The 6 Basic Strokes
1m 44s
This 2.5 hour class is designed for those of you that have some experience with drawing, but are new to working in pen and ink and cross-hatching.
Unlike many of the videos on this channel that use time-lapse, editing and voice-overs, this class is taught fully in real-time with minimal editing, and is much closer to the way one would learn in an actual classroom. Because of this, the recording includes the occasional street-noise, a pen failure or two, and even my kids screaming in background. However, though it might lack my usual professionalism and polish, this is a concise and information packed lesson that took a considerable time to organize and execute.
The tutorial is broken into 8 lessons, which besides covering “The six basic strokes” used in cross-hatching also deals with the 5 basic rules of cross-hatching, exercises you can do to build your hatching skill, and various hatching strategies used to render simple volumes. And in the last lesson, I apply everything we’ve learned and show you how to draw a simple still-life.
